Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Moshi - Londorossi Gate - Mti Mkubwa Camp

After being picked up from your lodging in Moshi, you'll drive to the Londorossi Gate. After stopping for lunch and last-minute supplies in a nearby village, you'll communicate with your guides and start your ascent through the lush rainforest that covers Kilimanjaro's lower slopes. Today's hike will only take you three hours, but as you make your way to Mti Mkubwa Camp for the evening, keep an eye out for local wildlife like Colobus monkeys.

  • Day 2 - Mti Mkubwa Camp - Shira 2 Camp

After breakfast, you'll say goodbye to the Kilimanjaro rainforest as your ascent gradually leads you through scrubby moorland crossed by softly bubbling mountain streams. On your way to Shira 2 Camp, you'll traverse a sizable plateau and enjoy breathtaking views of the surroundings. You'll find that your path has now crossed with those traveling the Machame Route as you set up camp here for the evening.

  • Day 3 - Shira Camp - Lava Tower - Barranco Camp

After breakfast, you'll set out for the intimidating shape of the Lava Tower (4,640m), which is your first objective for the day. Following a 700m ascent to the Lava Tower, you will gradually descend to Barranco Camp, which is located at 4,500m. You will set up camp at the picturesque Barranco Camp in the shadow of the commanding Barranco Wall after your trek takes you through various vegetation zones once more. Barranco, the most picturesque camp on Kilimanjaro, will serve as your home base tonight.

  • Day 4 - Barranco Camp - Karanga Camp

Today, as you take on Barranco Wall for some traditional rock climbing, you'll get your first real taste of mountain climbing. You will travel for a further 3–4 hours after this initial test before arriving at your camp in the Karanga Valley. You can rest and acclimate in the afternoon after stopping in time for lunch.

  • Day 5 - Karanga Camp - Barafu Camp

You'll travel for another two to three hours after breakfast until you arrive at Barafu Camp. You cross an alpine desert on your hike, which makes for a truly surreal day of hiking. It's critical that you eat a substantial meal and get plenty of liquids before going to bed this evening because you'll be summiting tomorrow.

  • Day 6 - Barafu Camp - Uhuru Peak - Mweka Camp

Today, you're getting an early start to the day—just after midnight! As you get dressed and organize your daypack for the adventure ahead, your climbing team will wake you up with a cup of hot tea and a light snack for energy. Take it slow; you'll be hiking in complete darkness for the next 5-7 hours. This way, you'll get to Stella Point just before dawn. Your next two hours of arduous hiking will take you to Uhuru Peak, your ultimate destination. Standing at 5,985 meters, you'll be able to witness an amazing sunrise and enjoy the expansive view. You've succeeded! You'll start the ascent back down to Barafu Camp after taking pictures and taking it all in, where you'll stop for lunch and some fun. You'll move on down to Mweka Camp to spend the night after taking a short break.

  • Day 7 - Mweka Camp - Moshi

Today is a special day because you'll have one last breakfast up on the mountain before you head down to the Mweka Gate. Here, you can celebrate with your porters and guides, give them tips for their labor of love, and get your completion certificate. After that, your driver will drive you to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha so you can get some well-deserved rest.
